12th Street, the New School’s undergraduate literary journal, is looking for work that explores the intersection between writing and democracy. We consider this to be a broad exploration that seeks overtly political pieces as well as more personal work. All New School undergrads and Writing and Democracy Honors/Riggio alumni are eligible to submit.

We are looking for engaging, original, and thought-provoking:
-fiction
-non-fiction
-poetry
-2D visual art
-video art and animation
-sound art
-work beyond these genres, particularly that challenges and broadens our sense of category and speaks to us in new ways!

For our blog, we are looking for all of the above as well as pieces which are timely, particularly work that considers the most urgent issues of our political and social moment.

Submission Period: We’re open for submissions!!!!
Requirements: For written work, please send no more than 6,000 words, double spaced, with numbered pages.

For visual art submissions, please send a high res (300 dpi) jpeg file and provide a checklist if submitting more than one image. Include details such as material, dimensions and title.

Again, please consider submitting interactive work, and written pieces that challenge what text can do online.

Undergrads looking to submit are encouraged to read previous 12th Street publications available at www.12thstreetonline.com or at the print archive at The New School Writing Center (room 510, 66 West 12th street).
