not like James, I guess
where James keeps
his knowledge, these actors
put their character
not theirs, really
but character none the less
I think my body
the body of an actor;
an open space, a promise
a pile of bones to fill
with interchangeable will
I’m not sure if we all choose
between knowing or being
James did, and he thinks
actors do too
I imagine that choice of
promise or beauty:
an unused car with
the manual still intact
or a dirty, old one
that no one knows how to drive
